2012
Jumpstart Jr.'s is the custodian of ten Italian antique violins and cellos. Violinist Shunske Sato and cellist Vladmir Waltham are chosen out of a group of ten musicians that went through a rigorous selection process. Bojan Cicic had a very succesful Young digging Old tour with his newly formed group Suonar Cantando playing at Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ, BOZAR, Concertgebouw Bruges, AMUZ and some of the venues of Organisatie Oude Muziek. Jumpstart Jr. makes three movies of Dmitry Sinkovsky, Elfa Run Kristiansdottir and Steuart Pincombe. Soon to be seen on YouTube.
2011
A coachingsprogramme is designed to aid the professional development of all Jumpstart talent. Organisatie Oude Muziek Utrecht and Jumpstart Jr. design a project to hone young musicians’ programming skills. The musicians are challenged to sell their ideas to the market and, ultimately, to the audience. In February eight Jumpstart Jr. talents came to the Muziekgebouw aan het IJ to present their dream concert to five programmers. Bojan Cicic was able to convince the five programmers best and will take us on tour in the fall of 2012.
2010
Ten candidates take part in Jumpstart Jr's third audition. The eleven jurymembers select violinist Cecilia Bernardini and cellist Steuart Pincombe to become two new talents that will be supported by the Foundation. The Collection of instruments grows steadily as Jumpstart acquires three instruments all of them Italian violins from the Baroque Era. End of 2010 125 instrument have been tested. The Foundation acquires expertise on providing instruments with optimal classical or baroque set-ups. Jumpstart Jr. network of musicians, festival directors/programmers and conductors actively scouts future talent.
2009
Jumpstart Jr. works together with the young and talented Belgium photographer Tim Mintiens. He is asked to make a portrait series of our musicians. His photos form an important part of this website. Together with the Festival of Old Music in Utrecht a concert is organised to present the Foundation, its musicians and their instruments. Bojan Čičić, Catherine Jones and Sophie Gent play solo with the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, lead by conductor Frans Bruggen.
On September 14 musicians take part in a second audition. The three violinists Elfa Rún Kristinsdóttir, Zefira Vallova and Dmitry Sinkovsky are chosen to become new receipiants of one of Jumpstart's instruments.
2008
A range of internationally renowned figures and organisations throughout the musical world, including artistic administrators, festival - and orchestra – directors, are recruited to scout and advise on the selection of musicians. The first auditions are held in the Concertgebouw; 13 musicians take part. Bojan Cicic and Catherine Jones are selected as Jumpstart's talents. Both talents receive an instrument. The Foundation acquires 2 cellos and 2 violins. One of the cellos, a Testore, is in original condition.
2007
The Foundation decides to focus primarily on setting up an instrument Fund aiming at lending historical instruments to musicians of various nationalities, specialising in the historically informed practice. A group of experts is to judge and to help with building up a collection of instruments. Jumpstart Jr. obtains its first violin, a Gagliano 1732 in original condition. Jumpstart Jr. designs professional standards in the process and documentation when buying and lending instruments. Violinist Sophie Gent is the first recipient of the Gagliano violin.
2006
Following a period of orientation Jumpstart Jr. is founded to set up an instrument collection to reach out to talented young musicians. Worldwide research into other musical instrument funds is done. Some small pilot projects are set up, one of those projects building more training facilities for a school in Nicaragua. First contacts with fellow funds and luthiers are made.
